What is OSDI?
Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) is a standardized questionnaire for assessing dry eye disease symptoms and their impact on vision-related function. It includes 12 questions covering three domains:
- Ocular symptoms (5 questions)
- Vision-related function (6 questions)
- Environmental triggers (1 question)
Scoring Method
OSDI score = (Sum of scores for all answered questions) × 25 / Number of answered questions
Severity Classification
| Score | Severity |
|---|---|
| 0-12 | Normal |
| 13-22 | Mild dry eye |
| 23-32 | Moderate dry eye |
| 33-100 | Severe dry eye |
Clinical Applications
- Baseline assessment before treatment
- Treatment efficacy monitoring
- Disease progression evaluation
- Screening high-risk populations
Precautions
- OSDI is a subjective symptom assessment, not an objective test
- Should be used together with objective tests (TBUT, Schirmer, corneal staining)
- Results may be affected by recent eye drop use, contact lens wear, environmental factors
